Lollipop Splinter Balsa wood, wooden doll head, red paint 4" x 1.25" For this project, I had a few different ideas in the beginning of the planning processes. However, I decided to scrap my first ideas and chose to use a more impactful memory. I chose to use a memory of my grandma pulling out a huge splinter out of my hand. Though I don't really remember the pain, I remember the amount of blood, my aunt giving me a lollipop, and my little brother screaming like he thought I was dying. Even though it's not the happiest memory, it's definitely one that I will never forget.  I created the splinter using a small stick of balsa wood and using my utility knife to cut chunks of it off until I got that triangular shape. Identity

"The Explorer" Cardboard, Elastic, Mirror, Black Duct Tape For this project, I created a mask to represent my "identity." Having it cover my face makes it less about what I look like and more about who I am. Being a photographer, I originally tried to make a camera lens and was going to make an actual lens out of plastic, but through my process I chose to make something less literal. I chose to switch out the plastic lens with a small circular mirror. I feel like doing this made my images more powerful and definitely made the circular shape stand out. After putting these images together, I also realized it looks like an alien wandering around a new world. I really like this idea since I'm still trying to figure out who I am and what I want to be in my world. While researching for this project, I found that I was mostly inspired by photographers such as Sally Mann and Francesca Woodman. They take on a moody black and white aesthetic...
